Porcelain Veneers in Beverly Hills

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain Veneers Beverly HillsTooth flaws and smile imperfections can have a surprisingly significant impact on your life. People with chipped, cracked or severely discolored teeth shy away from showing them in public. An embarrassing smile affects your self-esteem and may even limit your romantic life and career opportunities. Porcelain veneers are an excellent way to cover tooth flaws by placing ultra-thin shells over damaged or flawed teeth. These shells are customized to your desired shape and shade.

Porcelain veneers are permanently bonded to the front of the tooth’s surface, providing a simple and versatile solution to many aesthetic concerns, from mildly crooked teeth to severe tooth stains and cracks. Placing and designing porcelain veneers requires immense technical skill and attention to detail.

For over 30 years, Dr. Goldy has been at the forefront of cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry, placing his first case of porcelain veneers in 1985, long before the procedure was popular in dentistry offices. He has given countless patients their dream smile appearance. He uses the latest imaging technology to allow you to see your potential results before starting the process of getting porcelain veneers.

Are You a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Most people with healthy mouths and tooth flaws are good candidates for porcelain veneers. Your teeth, gums and other tissues must be in excellent condition before considering cosmetic dentistry, though. Our dentist must first address existing gum disease and tooth decay because poor dental health and lack of proper oral hygiene will affect the appearance of porcelain veneers.

As gum disease progresses, the gums pull away from the teeth, creating pockets that reveal the edges of porcelain veneers. A dental exam and teeth cleaning can determine if you’re ready for porcelain veneers. Our dental team can make a plan to restore a healthy mouth so we can move forward with improving the cosmetic appeal of your smile.

Porcelain veneers are an effective option to address the following concerns, among others:

  • Deep tooth stains that don’t respond to whitening treatments
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Minor tooth crowding or crooked teeth
  • White spots caused by dental fluorosis
  • Tooth chips
  • Tooth fractures
  • Unevenly sized teeth
  • Gaps or uneven spacing between teeth
  • Worn-down teeth

Teeth grinding or clenching may disqualify some patients from getting porcelain veneers. Porcelain material is resistant to stains and chips or cracks, but the pressure exerted by clenching or grinding the teeth can damage them. A custom NIGHTGUARD worn at night can help prevent bruxism (teeth grinding).

Porcelain veneers require adequate tooth enamel because of the procedure details. A small amount of tooth preparation, or enamel reduction, is needed to accommodate the shell and provide a natural-looking result.

What Are the Benefits of Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are the preferred option for many of our Beverly Hills patients. These thin shells can correct multiple tooth imperfections with a single treatment. Rather than go through teeth whitening, dental bonding and orthodontic treatments, you can enjoy a beautiful smile with porcelain veneers after just two appointments. Other benefits include:

  • Long-term results that may last a decade or longer with proper care
  • Stain resistant
  • Mimic the natural sheen of your tooth enamel
  • Cover cracks, gaps and other tooth flaws
  • Look and feel like your natural teeth
  • Prevent further tooth damage and discoloration
  • Low-maintenance care
  • Minimal enamel removal required
  • Made with a biocompatible material that is less likely to irritate the gums and oral tissues

Improving your smile with porcelain veneers also leads to a boost in confidence for most people. You’re more likely to smile freely when you’re proud of how your teeth look, which could open opportunities in your social and work life. People with porcelain veneers typically take special care to follow oral hygiene recommendations, lowering the odds of gum disease and tooth damage.

What is Involved with the Porcelain Veneer Procedure?

Dr. Goldy is proud to use advanced technology that gives you a glimpse of your new smile, so you know what to expect and can make an informed decision. Dental bleaching can be performed before porcelain veneers to brighten your adjacent teeth. These dental restorations are resistant to teeth whitening treatments. That’s why these procedures are often combined for best results. Dental bleaching is not recommended after you have porcelain veneers.

Cosmetic Dental Veneers Beverly HillsPorcelain veneers require two appointments, and the process starts with dental X-rays, photographs and a thorough examination with Dr. Goldy. He will recommend the best approach to reach your smile goals. The first appointment involves tooth preparation to remove the proper amounts of enamel from the teeth while a local anesthetic ensures you’re comfortable. An impression or intraoral scanner then creates a mold of your prepared teeth, which is sent to a lab. The lab fabricates your permanent veneers to match the shade of your adjacent teeth, which may take several weeks. Temporary veneers are placed over the prepared teeth during this time.

Dr. Goldy will place and adjust your permanent veneers at the second appointment and ensure your bite feels natural and you’re happy with your new smile.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect?

Dr. Goldy offers the highest-quality porcelain veneers and bonds them to the teeth with proven materials and techniques he has perfected for decades. Porcelain veneers may last for over a decade with proper care. Brushing and flossing twice a day is a great way to maintain your porcelain veneers and be sure to avoid habits such as using your teeth as tools to open or cut things. Our office can usually replace the broken or chipped shell if accidental damage occurs.
