Cosmetic Dentistry in Beverly Hills

Cosmetic Dentistry Beverly HillsWhen you are proud of your smile, you may find more reasons to flash your pearly whites and exude confidence. On the other hand, people who are embarrassed by the state of their teeth may shy away from social situations and show their joy with a tight-lipped smile. Cosmetic dentistry with Steven Goldy, DDS, can develop a customized plan comprised of one or more treatments to address most cosmetic flaws and help you achieve your smile goals.

Our Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist provides the highest quality of care and uses top-of-the-line materials to transform his patients’ smiles. Even subtle changes, such as fixing a chipped tooth with a porcelain veneer, can renew your smile and enhance your self-esteem. Dr. Goldy gives patients a new sense of confidence in their everyday life with cosmetic dentistry.

He offers these options:

Cosmetic dentistry can address chips, cracks, discoloration, overcrowding, misshapen or crooked teeth, gaps and other cosmetic flaws. Many cosmetic treatments can be combined for a “smile makeover” that addresses multiple tooth imperfections with an individualized approach. Dr. Goldy will evaluate your oral health, discuss your concerns with your teeth, gums and overall smile and determine the best way to reach your smile goals.

Are You a Candidate for Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic Dentist Beverly HillsMost people interested in improving the appearance of their teeth with cosmetic dentistry are good candidates. The most crucial factor is good oral health and excellent dental hygiene habits at home. Gum disease is a common concern that must be addressed before cosmetic treatments. Early stages of gum disease can typically be reversed with better oral hygiene and regular teeth cleanings, but advanced stages of periodontitis may require more intensive treatment, such as non-surgical periodontal therapy with scaling and root planing. Tooth decay, infection and other conditions may also delay your cosmetic dental work.

Cosmetic dentistry encompasses a variety of treatments and procedures. Candidacy for dental implants is vastly different from teeth whitening. Dental implant candidates need to have sufficient bone density and be in good overall health for the procedure, and teeth whitening candidates should have yellowish teeth with strong tooth enamel. Dr. Goldy will ensure your mouth is in good health and discuss which aspects of cosmetic dentistry will help you reach your dream smile.

Someone interested in porcelain veneers, crowns or cosmetic bonding may wish to have teeth whitening beforehand for a brighter smile with little to no imperfections. Teeth whitening may not be a good fit after these restorations are placed because porcelain and composite resin do not respond to whitening agents. Dental implant patients may also wish to have teeth whitening first if applicable.

What are the Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry?

Before After Cosmetic Dentistry PhotosEnhancing your smile has many benefits, the first of which is a boost in your self-esteem. People who are proud of their teeth may smile more and be seen as more welcoming and confident. You may be more likely to go after that job promotion or ask someone out on a date when you’re not self-conscious of tooth discoloration, chips, cracks and other flaws.

Cosmetic dentistry treatments often improve oral health because the mouth needs to be healthy beforehand, and you’re more likely to take excellent care of your teeth and gums when you’re happy with their appearance. Flossing, brushing and rinsing may become less of a nuisance and more of a joy as you appreciate your cosmetic dental work and are motivated to maintain your results.

Porcelain veneers, dental implants and other cosmetic treatments offer long-lasting results. Dental implants to replace missing teeth are designed to last a lifetime, and other restorations may last a decade or longer. These options can also restore balance to a misaligned bite due to shifting teeth to fill a gap left by an extracted tooth or one lost to trauma or disease. These methods ensure you have a uniform bite.

What is Involved with the Procedures?

While some cosmetic dentistry procedures require just one appointment at our Beverly Hills office, others take several visits to complete. Dental bonding is a single-appointment cosmetic treatment that involves preparing the tooth’s surface and then using a bonding liquid that is hardened with a special light and sculpted by Dr. Goldy.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening can be done with in-office or at-home treatments. We offer the Zoom! In-Office Whitening System to brighten your smile by up to eight shades in about one hour, or customized take-home trays to whiten teeth gradually over a couple of weeks.

Veneers and Crowns

Porcelain crowns (Zirconia and Emax) and porcelain veneers take a few visits to complete because temporary crowns or veneers are often bonded to the teeth while the permanent restorations are created in a lab. Dr. Goldy will prepare the tooth for a crown or veneer and place the temporary prosthetic over the vulnerable tooth structure, then place the permanent crown or shell at your next visit, making sure your bite feels comfortable, and you’re happy with the results.

Onlays and Inlays

Onlays and inlays require two appointments. The damaged area or filling is removed, and Dr. Goldy preps the tooth for the onlay or inlay at the first visit. Dr. Goldy takes an impression to ensure a customized restoration that meets your needs. He will place a temporary restoration, then bond the permanent at the second appointment, where he checks for an excellent fit.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the most invasive cosmetic and restorative dentistry procedure. This is because a titanium post is implanted in the jawbone to replace the missing tooth root, and the jaw must fuse to the post before proceeding. Then an abutment connects the artificial root with a dental crown made to match your remaining teeth. This process requires several visits.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect?

Some cosmetic treatments, such as teeth whitening and cosmetic bonding, give you results right away. Others will take some time, but once you’ve reached the end of your cosmetic dentistry journey, you will have a confident smile you’re proud to show off to friends and family.

Professional teeth whitening results may last six months to three years, depending on how well you care for your smile and avoid foods and beverages known to cause tooth stains. Porcelain veneers can give you a stunning smile for 10 to 20 years, and Zirconia porcelain crowns could last five to 25 years. Cosmetic bonding typically provides results for five years, and some inlays or onlays could stay intact for 10 to 25 years.

The longevity of your cosmetic dentistry results depends on how well you care for your mouth. Proper flossing and brushing and regular dental exams and teeth cleanings can help you enjoy your results for as long as possible.
