Instant orthodontics

For many years the only way to correct your smile was with braces. It took along time and was quite uncomfortable. Today porcelain veneers can give you almost instant orthodontics. A good cosmetic dentist can create a dazzling confident smile in as little as 2 visits.
Porcelain veneers are a great technique for adults who want a great smile but have no desire to submit themselves to years of treatment with braces – even the new invisible kind. Crooked teeth can usually be corrected in as little as two weeks with veneers. In fact, even if you have had braces in the past but the size and shape of your teeth is not pleasing to you, veneers may be the perfect solution.
Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain that are bonded onto the front side of teeth to create a cosmetic improvement in the look of the tooth. They are used by cosmetic dentists to improve the appearance of teeth that are discolored, worn, chipped, or misaligned.
Porcelain dental veneers can also cover and repair cracked and chipped teeth. Because porcelain veneers are custom made and fitted to your teeth by a skilled cosmetic dentist, you can customize and improve much more than just the color of your teeth. Crooked and chipped teeth can have their appearances improved to give you a beautiful new smile. Any broken teeth can be repaired using porcelain crowns that can be color matched to your dental veneers.
Because the glass-like ceramic that porcelain veneers are made for is a close match to natural tooth enamel the veneers are also translucent. This means that it lets light in.. When light strikes a natural tooth’s surface, it penetrates the tooth enamel and reflects off the opaque tooth dentin that lies just beneath. This translucent effect is what gives teeth their luster. By replicating this process porcelain veneers can create a confident, natural looking smile.
When applied correctly, porcelain veneers are strong and should last for many years. Of course there are factors that might jeopardize the longevity of porcelain veneers; and these should be carefully evaluated prior to the start of treatment. One important factor is your bite: occlusion. An improper bite, as well as harmful habits such as grinding of ones teeth (bruxism) can adversely affect the long term prognosis of porcelain veneers. A competent cosmetic dentist will carefully evaluate the occlusion prior to treatment.
Another factor that must be evaluated prior to porcelain veneers is periodontal disease or gingivitis. Swollen, tender gums will not respond well to porcelain veneers and conversely, improperly made veneers can contribute to swollen gums (gingivitis). These concepts are among the reasons for such a wide price range for veneers. (From $500 to $2500 per tooth). A well trained, competent cosmetic dentistry with integrity will properly evaluate and treat your entire mouth; along with the cosmetic improvement of your smile with porcelain veneers.
